This was the first freebie PC I ever got! I got it around July 2009. The HDD and curiously PSU were both removed, so I had to install my own replacements. And since it had moisture in the power switch, it would randomly turn on and off. At the time I replaced that part, though now I know you can spray alcohol in there to fix it. Everything else was intact & working great!

I did have some fun with this computer back in 2009-2011. I remember running Linux on it, and that ran very well! It’s largely only seen rare usage since 2012.

Around 2016 I upgraded the CPU with one I had to replace a broken pin on! That’s the 2.8GHz Pentium 4, which I remember buying around 2009, messing up at one point, and thankfully it’s living today.

In October 2025, I finally decided I’d make a fun little nostalgia setup out of it! I largely haven’t had space for something like this, but on a whim, I decided I’d just whip something up for the fun of it. If I’d not use it, fine enough, but if I don’t try, I’ll never use it! And so, there’s a complete setup, now with a lovely 17″ ViewSonic E771 CRT monitor!

In addition to replacing the Samsung SC-148A CD-ROM drive which apparently died in storage – now a nice DVD-RW drive – I also put a PCI Radeon card I had sitting in a bin, since stupidly these things don’t have AGP slots, but at least I have that card! Still beats the damned Intel Extreme Graphics!
