I got this guy somewhere in 2024, and was quite happy to see another oldie like it! It’s pretty rusty, but thankfully it’s in quite good condition otherwise.
Work: I had to replace the CD drive & floppy drive, as well as thoroughly clean the ISA expansion cards & slots with alcohol, before it would consistently operate correctly. This is one of the few 486 systems I’ve seen without a built-in disk controller, so since that’s on a card, if that’s not working, the system can’t boot! So, that was important. Thankfully, that’s about all I had to do with this one.
This computer has a wonderful sales story, too! I sold it to someone who was getting it for his 12-year-old son, who has always wanted an old DOS computer! How sweet!! That means a lot to me, as someone who always wanted something like this as a kid (and eventually got tons).
Specifications:
- CPU: Intel 486DX2 66MHz
- MB: PCChips M912 (w/real cache – many had fake cache!)
- GPU: Diamond Stealth 64 VLB based on S3 Vision964 (what a hunk!!)
- HDD: Fujitsu M2684TAU (what a lovely startup sound!)

Lovely hard drive sound!
