2010 Gigabyte Reincarnate

This here is my June 2010 revision of my first-ever self-built PC! As you’ll see in this article, that computer went thru a number of revisions, since I didn’t yet know how to select the most ideal parts at the time. One of the motherboards I had gotten later that year was Gigabyte brand, so that name wound up sticking with this computer in general.

Specs:

  • CPU: AMD Phenom II X4
  • MB: MSI NF980-G65
  • RAM: Mushkin 2x2GB DDR3 (#991585)
  • GPU: PNY GeForce 7600 GT
  • HDD: WD Blue & Green HDDs, 500GB each
  • OS: Windows 7 64-bit

The case is original – I’ve had it since that time! It’s the Cooler Master CM690-II, which I got for $89 on Newegg. None of the rest of the parts are original, but everything selected is picked to be quite close to what I had at the time. The motherboard is the higher-end sibling of the NF750-G55 – what I used back then. RAM is exact same model as what I had, HDDs are similar, GPU is a bit older vs the 8600 GT I had. For the CPU, I had an Athlon II X2 215, but I said to heck with it and went all-out for this version!
