Toshiba Satellite 1415-S173

This is a nice chunk of a laptop! Its design is quite elegant I think, and it certainly stands out from a lot of other laptops I’ve seen of the era. It doesn’t just look like a big boring brick, thanks to the silver lining, the speaker placement, and how the screen hinge positioning makes it look like the screen sort of levitates off of the base! I think it’s quite a forward-thinking design in spite of the fact it’s from 2002!

It’s fortunate also that unlike 2006-era Toshibas, the speakers on these don’t seem to be prone to totally trashing themselves. What’s interesting also about this laptop is the fact it has a dedicated composite output port – as far as I’ve seen, Toshiba liked doing that kind of thing around 2000.

My unit had a failing hard drive, but no other problems – easy fixer-upper!

Specs:

  • CPU: Intel Mobile Celeron 1.8GHz
  • RAM: 512MB DDR
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce Go 420 (nice)
  • HDD: Toshiba MK4026GAX
